How do you figure out a woman? At first glance, she appears to be a ray of white light. Ok, that’s easy, you think. And then, it rains and you realize the ray of white light actually has seven colors in it. Alright, Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red, you think. Not so easy, but not too hard either. And then, if you’re a discerning man, you actually stare at the rainbow and realize there is a gradation of shade in each color. Violet suddenly seems to have a dozen different shades, so does Red, as does Orange! Well, I think that’s as good an analogy for a woman as you can expect.
Complex, multi-dimensional, with shades you will probably not figure out completely in an entire lifetime. But in its entirety, always as beautiful and fascinating and mysterious as the ray of pure white light that metamorphoses into the rainbow.
Getting on, there are several such women in my life, women I know and admire, love and respect. And I wanted to do a series on them in my fashion posts. Because I think there is as much variety in how women like to dress as there are kinds of women. What looks amazing to me probably looks crappy to someone else. You get the idea. There is no right way of dressing. There is only dressing to suit your mood for the day, dressing in a way that makes you feel confident and bright and beautiful. So, to give my readers some variety, every Monday, I will write about another woman and try (with my limited capabilities) to break down her look. And also, hopefully, send some love to the people I love. Not a bad gig, yes?
The lovely lady I am writing about today is, in fact no lady! No, I mean that she is barely out of her teens and hence is a girl more than a woman. Although, the exact point at which a girl becomes a woman is a point of contention, yes? I digress. You might have seen this hashtag in many places – #friendslikefamily. This little girl definitely gives meaning to that hashtag for me. With a heart wrought of gold and steel and a maturity beyond her years, Supraja can stun you with her insight, her warmth and empathy. She is a singer and a dancer, an engineer and a fashionista. She is one of those gals that doesn’t dream about success, she works for it.
Talking about her style is a little interesting for me, because she is still very young and her sense of style is evolving. She likes dresses and shorts alike and usually gives a fun twist to most of her outfits.
Take a look at this dress she wore when out and about in New York.
Denim shirt and Boots: Tibetan Mall, Bangalore
Chain & Earrings: Accessorize, Express Avenue, Chennai
You see how she takes a formal dress, but wears it with ankle booties and a casual denim shirt, thus making it totally age appropriate? The dress becomes instantly young and fun and that just about summarizes her style. She has gone all out with her accessories, wearing huge danglers and a long chain with a butterfly pendant, but somehow, they don’t overwhelm her. I guess that is one of the perks of having a zingy personality!
So, this is also a great way to wear a summer dress during spring or fall – layer it with a denim shirt or if you want a more formal look, with a blazer and knee-length boots. You won’t recognize the dress yourself. 🙂
Finally I will say this about Supraja.
“I’ll be everything that I want to be
I am confidence in insecurity
I am a voice yet waiting to be heard
I’ll shoot the shot, bang, that you hear round the world”
-One Girl Revolution, Superchic(k)
I am waiting for the day she will shake up the world!
On that note, I am signing off for the day. Cheers!8
